AUSTRALIA'S HOME OF CRAFT SINCE 1973

There’s something special about knitting with cashmere. Exceptionally soft, warm and lightweight, cashmere is a fibre that brings a beautiful sense of luxury to handmade garments and accessories. Cardiff Cashmere yarn combines this remarkable fibre with generations of Italian textile expertise, creating a collection of cashmere knitting yarns designed for everything from timeless garments to delicate accessories.

At Morris & Sons, we’re pleased to have four Cardiff Cashmere yarns in our collection: Classic, Prime, Brushlight and Brushmere. Each offers a different way to work with cashmere, from the clean finish of pure cashmere to delicate silk blends and beautifully brushed textures.

But what makes Cardiff Cashmere special? And which cashmere yarn is right for your next project? Let’s take a closer look.

About Cardiff Cashmere

Cardiff Cashmere has specialised in the selection and transformation of cashmere fibres since the 1980s. Founded by a family of entrepreneurs in Biella, Italy, the company has built its approach around a dedicated focus on cashmere, combining traditional textile knowledge with modern production techniques.

The story begins with the fibre. Cardiff sources its cashmere from Inner Mongolia, where Hircus goats develop a fine undercoat to protect them from the region’s dramatic changes in temperature. Cardiff carefully selects its raw materials, assessing characteristics including fibre fineness, length, colour and cleanliness. The company specifies fibres no finer than 15.5 microns and no shorter than 38mm.

This carefully selected fibre is then transformed into yarn in the Biella textile district of Italy, with processes including carding, spinning, twisting and dyeing carried out locally. This connection to Biella allows Cardiff to combine longstanding textile traditions with modern technology and production methods.

Sustainability is also an important part of Cardiff’s approach. The company says it carefully selects raw materials with consideration for animal treatment, while keeping production within the Biella textile district supports local skills, businesses and families. Cardiff also focuses on reducing waste and the resources used during production.

The result is a collection of Italian cashmere yarns with distinct weights, textures and fibre combinations - giving knitters plenty of ways to bring cashmere into their next project.
