Dustland Sweater, Ariana Cardigan & Anker's Summer Shirt

This week we are thinking of quick summer tops, like Anker's Summer Shirt by Petite Knit, as well as looking ahead to making heavier garments that will be ready to wear once the season changes. It might seem a bit odd to knit something heavy in the warmer months but it is one way to make sure you have new winter garments ready! The Dustland Sweater by Stephen West is the perfect amount of texture to keep the knitting interesting while not being too complicated. We love the modern take on granny squares that the Ariana Cardigan by Amy Christoffers has and we are having so much fun planning our own colour combinations.

Knit seamlessly from the top collar down to the bottom ribbing, this solid sweater is comprised of simple knit and purl stitches like moss stitch, diagonal ribbing, and broken rib, framed by garter stitch rows. It is easy to knit and you can try on the sweater as you knit to customise the length and fit it to your proportions.

Rowan Felted Tweed Aran, the big sister to classic Felted Tweed, is rustic 10ply aran weight yarn that will be beautiful in a Dustland Sweater. The classic tweedy colours really shine on their own in cables and texture stitches.

Morris Estate 10ply

Our second choice for the Dustland Sweater is Morris Estate 10ply. The heathered shades of Estate will be beautiful in this sweater and accentuate the crisp stitch definition of the knit and purl patterns perfectly.

Ariana turns the typical granny square cardigan on its side. The cardigan’s unique construction is finished off with knitted button bands and cuffs. This is a free pattern and perfect for elevating your love of granny squares to the next level.

Manos Maxima is our first choice for this cardigan. Super-soft merino fibre and a light single-ply construction make Maxima so cuddly. It crochets beautifully and there are so many bright and subtle shades to chose from that you are sure to find a combination you will love for your cardigan.

Morris Avalon 10ply is our second choice for the Ariana Cardigan. Avalon, a 100% pima cotton yarn, will make a more transeasonal cardigan perfect for wearing year round. It has a matte finish and is available in an array of gemstone shades that will really shine once crocheted into granny squares.

Anker’s Summer Shirt is perfect for warmer weather and very satisfying to knit as it is worked from the top down in the round. The yoke is worked in sections of rib with increases in the round, followed by classic raglan increases when the stockinette stitch section begins. The sleeves are worked at the end, either on double-pointed needles or on circular needles using the Magic Loop technique.

With a crisp look but a soft feel, Creative Linen is our top choice for this summer shirt. Great stitch definition means that the rib yoke will really shine in this yarn, which comes in a fresh colour palette of brights and tonals. With a mixture of 50% linen and 50% cotton, Creative Linen will wear and wash beautifully.

Rowan Denim Revive is another great choice for this top. Denim Revive is made from recycled cotton fibres that give it an almost tweedy effect which will make for a beautiful summer shirt. The capsule colour palette of muted shades contains the classic denim shades but goes beyond the blues to include chalky white, soft red, and midnight black.
