Wednesday Wrap-Up- Venetian Tank, Herringbone Socks & Stormy Sky Shawl

This week we are getting excited about our Holiday Cast Ons! We find it very special to choose a new project to start on or just after Christmas (as if we needed any encouragement to start a new project!) and take some quiet time for ourselves during the busy season. Here are some of the patterns we have our eyes on to create these holidays.

If you need more assistance with yarn choices or quantities please contact one of our stores where our helpful and knowledgeable staff will be on hand!

Venetian Tank by Sari Nordlund

Venetian Tank Yarn Recommendations

The Venetian tank top was designed with holidays in mind. It is a timeless piece that can be worn with just about anything in your wardrobe and styled up or down depending on the occasion. It is minimalistic with just the right amount of details - and a slit back to keep it interesting. The top is knitted with fingering weight yarn held double, but can also be worked with a single strand of DK weight yarn.

Our first choice for this tank is Rowan Cotton Cashmere. It combines spectacular stitch definition with a soft feel and is a modern classic. A rich blend of 85% cotton and 15% cashmere and available in soft tonal shades, it's the perfect yarn for the Venetian Tank!

Rowan Softyak DK transcends the seasons thanks to its blend of cotton, yak and nylon. The chainette construction makes it surprisingly light for a cotton rich 8ply yarn and one of our favourite choices for this tank.

Herringbone Socks by Ashlea Konecny

Herringbone Socks Yarn Recommendations

These toe-up, short row heel socks are crocheted using the Herringbone Half Double Crochet stitch. Available in five sizes from Women’s 5 to Men’s 13, whip a pair up for all of your favourite people.

Just a note, These socks are stretchy! They have a negative ease and may appear too small while working them up.

The new Rowan Sock yarn is our number one choice for the Herringbone Socls. This delightful colour-changing sock yarn is a blend of wool and polyamide, ensuring durability whilst not compromising on style. The shades gently move through washes of colour, creating a subtle shift from one to the next. It will create stunning crochet socks!

Manos Alegria is another great option. Alegría means "joy" in Spanish, and that's just what this hand-painted yarn is, a true colour celebration! There are so many beautiful shades for you to choose from, ranging from semi-solids to fun variegated.

Stormy Sky Shawl by Ksenia Naidyon

Stormy Sky Shawl Yarn Recommendations

Stormy Sky is a lightweight, asymmetrical shawl, it’s dynamic and modern. Knitted from the corner in a shape of a skewed triangle, it makes a great and fast project for that one very special skein of yarn. Alternation of sections creates nice texture and is rather easy to memorize. Tassels can be added to make corners look more polished.

Elegant and refined, Manos Fino combines the softness of merino wool with the lustre of silk in a lightweight yarn that is perfect for this shawl. The colours in the Fino range are so beautiful due to its special dye process that yields complex, subtle, tonal colours.

A great plant based yarn option for this shawl is Morris Avalon. Spun from 100% pima cotton, a soft & strong long-staple cotton of superior quality, Avalon has a matte finish and is perfect for spring and summer. We love using two balls of it to make a lightweight, breathable version of this shawl.
