In this series, Tal-Mrs Morris' daughter- will show you the yarns from Manos Del Uruguay. Manos Del Uruguay are a fantastic fairtrade company supporting women in rural Uruguay, for more details see our post of them here.

Alegria Grande is the big brother of Alegria. Its a 10ply/Worsted/Aran weight yarn with a blend of a blend of 75% Superwash Merino, 25% Polyamide. It is a fantastic yarn for blankets, thicker socks as well as garments and accessories. With the yarn being such a delicious squishy texture it can also be used in some 8ply patterns, you will just need to knit a gauge swatch to confirm this.

We used it in a remake of our garter stitch bias blanket. This pattern works from one corner on the diagonal, increasing stitch count on the first half and then decreasing on the second. We used one skein of variegated followed by on solid skein to increase and then 2 skeins of the same solid to decreases to give the effect of a corner being dipped into the bright colourway but could also be made in 4 skeins of 1 colourway.

Manos del Uruguay recently brought out a little collection of beautiful mini skeins of Alegria Grande called Bocados. They are ideal when you just want a little pop of colour or for colourwork projects.
