Morris & Sons

Hello !

We’ve been noticing it’s getting busier and busier in the shop as the colder weather sets in. Everyone seems to be getting their winter jumpers started and setting up other projects to keep their hands busy whilst we all hibernate!

Ehrman Designs

One of our staff picks for a hibernation project is our tapestry kits. It is so peaceful working over your embroidery frame watching an image slowly coming to life and the end result is always so impressive.

Some of our favourites in store at the moment have got to be these Gustav Klimt designs from the Erhman range. See them on our website.

We can also help turn these beauties into cushions for you with our Cushion Assembly Service. Bring in your finished tapestry and we can arrange the rest for you. You’ll have a work of art sitting on the sofa in no time.

Mother’s Day Ideas

Mother’s Day will soon be upon us and we have some great gift ideas to help you show your mum just how important she is. Not only do all our stores issue gift vouchers but we can help you pick out a selection of delicious yarns, threads or fabrics to make a personalized gift. Another great option is our classes. Maybe book for both your mum and yourself. It’s a great way to spend time together and develop a hobby at the same time.

All of our classes are listed online.

Need Help with your current WIP?

Have you heard about our Craft Clinics?

We run our craft clinics for you to join so we can help troubleshoot any issues with your projects. There is nothing more frustrating than running into a block that stops you progressing or just leaves you feeling unsatisfied with the finish of the piece you have put so much time and effort in to!

Come along to a clinic so we can sort out these issues together!

Clinics are run on different days/times at our different shops. Follow the links below for each location or simply speak with our friendly staff for more information!

Meet the Staff

With Mother’s Day coming up we thought we would introduce you to Mrs. Morris, founder of the store and mum to the Morris sons. To celebrate Mothers day we have found some pictures from the archive that highlights Mrs Morris and the business she and her family have built.

Ruth and Laurie Morris started the Tapestry Craft business about 45 years ago with Mrs. Morris inspiring and teaching people all over Sydney how to do Tapestry and Cross Stitch. The business became very famous within the crafting community, and people would get a lot of pleasure choosing their pieces. Mrs. Morris would put together the yarns and help with creative ideas for their masterpieces.

About 15 years ago wool became the new craft and with Albert's vision the store evolved into the wool and needlecraft store we have today.

Mrs. Morris is still a big part of the business. She makes beautiful cushions for customers, tapestries, and helps with the knitting and crochet business, always ready to excite and inspire.

Ruth is passionate about passing on the knowledge of these crafts. She truly believes that it is important to create and be part of the tradition of this wonderful pastime.

Her 4 children are all involved in the business.

Albert travels the world sourcing beautiful fibers. Joe does the fantastic renovations of all the stores. Danny is behind the scenes making sure the Technical all works, and Tal manages the Newtown Granny Square store.

That’s all our news for now. Look forward to seeing you in store soon,
