Hello there...welcome to our August 2010 newsletter.
The Sheep Has Landed!
We're very pleased to be able to announce the opening of our new store in Sydney's inner western suburb of Newtown,The Granny Square.
About a year ago now word got around that Newtown's yarn store Champion Textiles was about to close its doors for good. A few store visits and some brainstorming later, Albert Morris decided that the location had potential. Although the store in its then condition could best be described as arough diamond, with a bit of polish it could be a fun and exciting yarn store for the inner west.
After lots of structural repairs to the building, a small flood or two, some purpose built shopfittings and some vintage furniture (check out our funky ex-cinema seating!), we finally threw open our doors this month. We've kept as many of the original building features as possible, including the original "47" over the door, and lovingly restored other features such as the beautiful floorboards. Stripping back the layers of paint on all the woodwork has highlighted just how much history the building has. To be honest we're still putting finishing touches to the place, but we're about 90% done and we love what we've created. We hope you will too!
New Brands, New Inspiration
We've stocked the new store with some of our most popular yarns fromNoro,Debbie Bliss and our ownMorris yarns, but also with lots of new brands that we felt would suit the new store. The new light, bright shop interior is a perfect canvas for colour and we haven't been shy about adding it! From the bright, clear shades ofSugar 'n Cream 10ply cotton, the summery neutrals of KatiaLinen, the beautiful pastels and brights of FibraNatura'sCottonwood 8ply organic cotton, to our own range of hand dyed yarns and the big 130g hand dyed skeins of FibraNatura'sYummy sock yarn. For lovers of natural yarns we've also included handspun natural alpaca from right here in New South Wales, as well as handspun undyed cashmere, baby camel and angora yarns. Our ownMorris Pure 10ply rounds out the assortment with a range of shades inspired by nature.
In addition to the range of knitting and crochet yarns, we've selected some fun kits and gift ideas. Over the coming weeks we'll be adding selected items from other fibre crafts, including (but not limited to) spinning, felting, soft toys and embroidery, along with an expanded range of books and patterns. We've also stocked the shelves with a selected range ofKnitPro interchangeable circular needles,Tulip bamboo needles and notions. We'll be trying new ranges and new brands all the time, so we hope you'll visit us frequently to see what's happening in store.
