Project of the Month – March 2009
Our project for this month is Jo Sharps Twisted Drop Stitch Vest.
Staff and customers have been drawn to this modern design. Its very quick and easy, but still interesting to knit, as you make the three sections (bodice and two sleeves) first, then join them at the yoke.
The version we have displayed in-store (and pictured here) uses a strand each of both #858 Champagne Jo Sharp Alpaca Kid Lustre (5 balls for the 80-90cm bust size; 6 balls for 100-110cm bust size) and #233 Crete Jo Sharp Soho Summer DK cotton (6 balls smaller size; 7 balls larger size), plus 10.00mm and 4.50mm needles. The generous folk at Jo Sharp have kindly lent us this sample so that you, our customers, can see and feel their designs and yarns in real life.
You can find this pattern along with 10 other fabulous designs including Origami Bolero, Ra Ra Cape and Ribbed Scarf in Jo Sharp, Knit Issue 7 available instore and online NOW!
The tragic bushfires in Victoria are bringing out the charitable character of Australians, and indeed, people from around the world. One great idea for raising funds for the victims has caught our attention: a raffle of knitting & fibre goodies, organised by Melbourne knitter Jacqueline through her blog Serendipity. As Jacqueline explains, basically how it works is that you go to the Australian Red Cross Website and make a donation of AUD$10 or above to the Victorian bushfire appeal. For every $10 you donate you will go into the draw for the knitting/fibre related prize, then you just have to email a copy to your receipt to Jacqueline. The prizes so far are incredible, and just keep getting better - Morris and Sons are happy to be donating a $100 Gift Voucher, and hope that everyone can get behind Jacqueline's great initiative.
Project of the Month – February 2009
"Love is in the Air - Hearts" - This month the staff and customers at Morris and Sons are falling in love and knitting about it! Our in-house designer has created these cute little hearts, which are a simple gift for you to make for all your family and friends for Valentine's Day. The best thing is that you can use just about any yarn you like - we particularly like any yarns that are fluffy or shiny and so we've made our samples from Anny Blatt Angora Super 8ply, Bouton d'Or Angora Infeutrable 8ply, Anny Blatt Victoria Ribbon, Bouton d'Or Flash, Twilleys Goldfingering as our project for the month of February. The pattern is very easy and you could whip up a couple of hearts over a weekend. Happy Valentine's Day!
Project of the Month – January 2009
"Sydney By Day" - To celebrate Australia Day and our gorgeous Sydney summer we’ve chosen the long stitch kit “Sydney By Day” as our project for the month of January. The design shows a beautiful, iconic Sydney skyline of our famous Opera House with the Harbour Bridge and Sydney Tower behind with a Sydney Ferry ploughing through the harbour in the foreground. The kit has a finished size of 71cm x 46cm and includes the printed canvas, wools, instructions and a needle…all you need to get started and complete this lovely project.
